About

Kim is a native of Seattle, Washington. Although born in the harbor town of Aberdeen, she escaped at an early age, and did most of her schooling in North Seattle. She moved to California in the 70’s, and graduated Simi Valley High School in 1976. For college she returned to Seattle, where she obtained a degree in Culinary Arts from SSCC.

But knowing that no career is worthwhile without a few unprofitable diversions, she flexed her golden pipes for several years as an FM disc jockey at Mixx96 in Olympia, Washington under the pseudonym Kim Carlson. She also spent nearly twenty years as an office manager for her husband’s construction company.

So with all of those assembled talents she decided to follow her real passion – constructing fine meals and broadcasting her creations to the world – under the pseudonym, Bad Aunty.

Bad Aunty’s Kitchen Smarts is the first in a series of what, Kim hopes and intends, to be a series of “Bad Aunty” basic skills cookbooks, covering subjects like breakfast, veggies, side dishes, desserts, parties and entertaining, and so on. This first cookbook is self-published, created in Adobe InDesign, and financed by a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015. (Check out the Blahblahblog for details on the Kickstarter story.)
